Sheridan College, and Darren Shum, Student, Sheridan College, with respect to How Sheridan College Architecture Students Are Shaping the Future of Mississauga’s Neighbourhoods

Ibrahim Dia, Consultant Business Improvements and Strategic Initiatives, provided an overview of the project in collaboration with Sheridan College on fourplex development.

Parandis Abdi, Professor, Sheridan College, provided an overview of the partnership between Sheridan College students and the City of Mississauga on an innovative project for the future development of fourplex living in Mississauga, and announced the grand opening of Fourplex exhibit at the Sheridan College, Hazel McCallion Campus.

Darren Shum, Student Sheridan College, shared his experience with the project and presented samples of fourplex designs.

In response to Councillor Damerla’s enquiry, regarding multiple ownership, Ibrahim Dia, Consultant Business Improvements and Strategic Initiatives, advised that the project only focused on development and design and not ownership.

In response to Councillor Tedjo’s enquiry regarding whether the models presented can be used to create pre-approved fourplex designs for residents looking to convert their homes, Andrew Whittemore, Commissioner, Planning and Building advised that consideration to providing a complete package, similar to Additional Residential Units (ARU), of pre-approved designs and costs associated with fourplexes is possible, it is a matter of resourcing.

In response to Mayor Parrish’s enquiry on payment of royalties to Sheridan College for fourplex designs for future use by developers, Harinder Malhi, Government Relations, Sheridan College advised that she would take this back to the Planning team at Sheridan College for consideration.

In response to Mayor Parrish’s enquiry regarding fourplex ownership similar to condominiums, Graham Walsh, City Solicitor and Commissioner, Legislative Services advised that he would look into the matter and report back to Council.

In response to Councillor Mahoney’s enquiry regarding whether consideration was given to parking, access to transit and walkability to retail, Ibrahim Dia, Consultant Business Improvements and Strategic Initiatives, advised that each design considered all types of lot sizes and the requirements for parking based on access to transit.

Ahmed Salihovic, spoke about the Srebrenica genocide and in the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the event. Mr. Salihovic requested that Council consider a proclamation to mark the Srebrencia Genocide; supporting the process of learning about Srebrencia Genocide; placing a monument in a designated park; and the naming of a city street as “Srebrencia”.

Councillor Kovac, thanked Mr. Salihovic for the heartfelt deputation and requested that staff look into the requests made by Mr. Salihovic and report back to a future Council meeting.

Raj Sheth, Commissioner, Community Services, advised that he would have staff look into the matter and report back.

Quinto Lijoi, Resident, spoke regarding the property tax rate increase and questioned why the need for the increase and the higher rate.  Mr. Lijoi described the types of infrastructure projects that he deems unnecessary and may be the cause of increasing property taxes.

Councillor Fonseca invited Mr. Lijoi to attend the upcoming Budget meeting.

In response to Councillor Dasko's enquiry on what inspired him to create "Legends Row", Ron Duquette spoke to events that led to proposing Legends Row, Mississauga's Walk of Fame to City Council.

In response to Councillor Dasko's enquiry on how the request for funding for several fire apparatuses now will be a future cost savings, Fire Chief, Stephane Malo, provided an overview on planning for and procurement of fire apparatus, and the cost savings by committing to purchase several fire apparatuses now to secure current prices and avoid price increases.

Councillor Hart spoke to the issues regarding the process to issue parade permits and requested staff look into the process and report back.  Sam Rogers, Commissioner, Transportation and Works, spoke to the current process and advised that staff will look into the process and report back on recommendations.

Councillor Damerla, enquired when statistics on how this summer compares to last summer regarding the use of escooters/ebikes would be available, and enquired whether the use of escooters/ebikes are permitted only in summer and not in winter.

Sam Rogers, Commissioner, Transportation and Works advised that staff will be reporting back in Q4 (4th quarter), and that e-scooters are not permitted throughout the year and e-bikes are permitted throughout the year.

Members of General Committee spoke to events and celebrations taking place in Mississauga.
