Harpreet Singh, Interior Designer, Prime Consultant spoke to the News Conference Zone at City Hall and its usage and noted accessible features to include turn radius in the various rooms, doorway clearance for wheelchairs and scooters, flooring, vertical and horizontal colour contrast, lighting, flexible use of furniture in the space with a potential completion date of September 2025.
Committee Members provided comments regarding the following items:
- availability of automatic door openers;
- turn radius in the kitchenette and conference rooms;
- site markings on glass doors and walls;
- colour contrast in the lobby area;
- adjustable lecterns, podiums and a variety of chair styles including some with arms;
- multi height counter tops in the kitchenette;
- location of electrical outlets in the floor to avoid tripping hazards; and
- window coverings to factor in light sensitivity.
In response to Committee Members concerns, H. Singh advised the following:
- that wave operators would be installed for entry into boardrooms;
- spoke to radius clearance around tables and ability to move furniture;
- the use of vertical ticks 12" in height on glass doors and advised that committee member concerns about colour contrast would be taken back for consideration;
- electrical outlets would be flush with the floor;
- that they are looking at various height adjustable podiums; and
- windows would have a two-shade system, one being black out shades.
