Councillor Mahoney, Chair called the meeting to order at 9:32 AM.

Councillor Mahoney, Chair recited the Indigenous Land Statement.

J. McRight spoke to the Nuisance Weed and Tall Grass Control By-law and proposed amendments, and further spoke to the Blooming Boulevards organization and designing with native grasses.

Councillor Butt inquired when the By-law above was last updated and the nature of the updates made; in response, and Nathaniel McLaren, Manager, Compliance and Licensing Enforcement provided information.

Councillor Dasko commented on the volume of complaints related to weed nuisance and tall grass, and differentiating between grass and native species.

Melanie Kramer, Community Organization Representative spoke to incorporating the input of an ecologist or biologist in the review of the above By-law.

Direction was provided to By-law and Environment staff to perform a comprehensive review and benchmarking with other municipalities of the Nuisance Weed and Tall Grass Control By-law and report back to Environmental Action Committee.

Adam Halsey, InductEV regarding Wireless Transit Electrification 

D. Ridings spoke to the Hydrogen fuel cell electric bus pilot project update, outlining MiWay’s GHG reduction targets, fleet transition, hydrogen bus layout, and the impact of the fuel cell technology.

Councillor Tedjo inquired about refueling sites, servicing routes, and capacity of fuel cell technology in the winter; in response, D. Ridings, provided information regarding current and future fueling station locations, route deployment and variables affecting range, and reduction in range based on climate.

Dianne Zimmerman, Manager, Environment spoke to the subject matter, providing an overview of hydrogen and its role as a low-carbon source, the City’s Hydrogen Ecosystem project overview, engagement activities, and timelines.

D. Zimmerman noted that staff plan to come back to Environmental Action Committee later in the year to speak to the economic assessment findings of the hydrogen hub.
