Councillor S. Dasko, Chair called the meeting to order at 9:32 AM.

Councillor S. Dasko, Chair, recited the Indigenous Land Statement.

M. Stewart presented the results of CAA's "Slow Down, Move Over" survey and provided background information. In response to Councillor S. Dasko, M. Stewart spoke to increasing communication regarding HAAS alerts and the use of traffic apps. Councillor S. Dasko requested that a one-page summary regarding "Slow Down, Move Over" be shared with the Councillors. In response to Councillor J. Horneck, M. Stewart spoke to the slow down move over decals and educating drivers, for driver behaviour. Anne Marie Hayes, Citizen Member spoke to sending education material to driving schools.

E. Warsh spoke to developing a social media campaign for the end of the school year and summer and noted she would present at the next meeting with respect to Pedestrian Safety month and other education and engagement strategies.

In response to Councillor S. Dasko, E. Warsh spoke to using previously developed creative material to display on digital sign boards and post on social media. Louise Goegan, Mississauga School Traffic Safety Action Committee (MSTSAC) spoke to focusing on identified school locations. In response, E. Warsh spoke to working with staff and MSTSAC to coordinate their messaging efforts.

Councillor J. Kovac spoke to traffic calming engagement and enquired about timing. Max Gill, Supervisor, Road Safety noted that completion is scheduled for November, 2024. Councillor J. Horneck spoke to feedback regarding road navigation tools and enquired about opportunities to work with major navigation companies to redirect traffic for temporary conditions such as construction. In response, M. Gill noted Communications staff have contacts with navigation apps such as Google and Waze to update suggested routes for temporary conditions. Councillor J. Horneck requested staff to work with communications to make suggestions to navigation apps to redirect traffic to arterial roads over secondary roads. Councillor S. Dasko spoke in support.

    That the Corporate Report from the Commissioner of Transportation and Works, dated April 17, 2024, titled “2024 Traffic Calming Program (Ward 4)” and referred from the General Committee to the Road Safety Committee for information, be received.

Councillor S. Dasko spoke to incorporating action on auto theft into the Road Safety Committee Terms of Reference. Councillor J. Horneck spoke to requesting feedback from the Ontario Provincial Police, Peel Regional Police and agency representatives for language to include in a draft terms of reference and further, to include the draft on the agenda at the next Road Safety meeting for review and discussion. Councillor S. McFadden requested that subject matter experts be present at the meeting to provide comments and respond to questions.

Members of the Committee spoke to adjusting the frequency of meetings in the Terms of Reference to bi-monthly.
