Louise Goegan, Citizen Member, noted that it appears that no parking tickets or warnings are being issued at the schools being patrolled, and suggested other schools be added to the list for enforcement.
Councillor Butt expressed concerns that perhaps that rather than parking violation tickets being issued, warnings are be given instead, and suggested a more aggressive enforcement approach be taken and would be willing to table a Motion at Council to that effect.
TJ Cieciura, Citizen Member enquired whether the presence of Parking Enforcement in school zones is preventing parking violations, and how are tags and tows measured.
Sheelagh Duffin, Supervisor, Crossing Guards, noted an observation during a site inspection, that parking enforcement staff have attended a school well after the dismissal time, where most students have already been picked up and suggested parking enforcement attend shortly before school start times and at school dismissal time.
Rebecca Rozario, Transportation Safety Officer – STOPR, spoke to the challenges the school bus drivers experience during drop off and pickup times and spoke in support of more parking enforcement during those times.
Sheelagh Duffin, Supervisor, Crossing Guards, suggested that the Committee provide to Parking Enforcement staff a list of specific schools to attend and the start and dismissal times for each of the schools.
Angie Melo, Legislative Coordinator suggested that she reach out to Parking Enforcement staff to relay the concerns of the Committee and ask that they attend the next meeting to discuss the concerns raised and provide details of their enforcement actions at the schools listed on the Parking Enforcement School Zone report.
Peter Westbrook, Citizen Member enquired whether Parking Enforcement staff have the most current start and dismissal times for all schools in Mississauga and suggested that Parking Enforcement staff be requested to attend a specific school at specific times. Mr. Westbrook enquired whether there are violations that may or may not be under the jurisdiction of Parking Enforcement but rather Peel Regional Police.
