Parandis Abdi, Professor, Sheridan College, provided an overview of the partnership between Sheridan College students and the City of Mississauga on an innovative project for the future development of fourplex living in Mississauga, and announced the grand opening of Fourplex exhibit at the Sheridan College, Hazel McCallion Campus.
Darren Shum, Student Sheridan College, shared his experience with the project and presented samples of fourplex designs.
In response to Councillor Damerla’s enquiry, regarding multiple ownership, Ibrahim Dia, Consultant Business Improvements and Strategic Initiatives, advised that the project only focused on development and design and not ownership.
In response to Councillor Tedjo’s enquiry regarding whether the models presented can be used to create pre-approved fourplex designs for residents looking to convert their homes, Andrew Whittemore, Commissioner, Planning and Building advised that consideration to providing a complete package, similar to Additional Residential Units (ARU), of pre-approved designs and costs associated with fourplexes is possible, it is a matter of resourcing.
In response to Mayor Parrish’s enquiry on payment of royalties to Sheridan College for fourplex designs for future use by developers, Harinder Malhi, Government Relations, Sheridan College advised that she would take this back to the Planning team at Sheridan College for consideration.
In response to Mayor Parrish’s enquiry regarding fourplex ownership similar to condominiums, Graham Walsh, City Solicitor and Commissioner, Legislative Services advised that he would look into the matter and report back to Council.
In response to Councillor Mahoney’s enquiry regarding whether consideration was given to parking, access to transit and walkability to retail, Ibrahim Dia, Consultant Business Improvements and Strategic Initiatives, advised that each design considered all types of lot sizes and the requirements for parking based on access to transit.
