Committee members discussed their concerns regarding the following items:


•    Use of e-scooters and e-bikes on sidewalks;
•    Obstruction on sidewalks due to parking of e-scooters;
•    Speed limits for e-scooters on roadways;
•    Designated lanes on roadways for e-scooters to avoid usage on sidewalks;
•    Mandatory use of helmets;
•    discussion of the AODA alliance and e-scooters;
•    City of Toronto has banned the use of e-scooters will City do same;
•    Committee members asked that this matter be referred to the Accessible Transportation Subcommittee for further discussion of their                      concerns.

Gus Mangos, Elections Officer to present on the ExpressVote Unit

Committee members discussed the accessibility of the ExpressVote Unit and asked that the machine be made accessible for height and wheelchair access.

Councillor Saito asked that Committee members submit their comments to Martha Cameron, Legislative Coordinator so their feedback can be provided to Governance Committee.

  • Alana Tyers, Manager Service Development to present on the MiWay 2021 Annual Accessibility Plan

Alana Tyers, Manager Service Department presented the MiWay 2021 Annual Accessibility Plan and advised Committee Members that the city is working towards connectivity of sidewalks and bus stops with the few remaining locations within the City.

Committee members commended Alana Tyers, Manager Service Development on the MiWay 2021 Annual Report regarding accessibility.

  • Dan Sadler, Supervisor Accessibility to present the Annual Status Update

Dan Sadler, Supervisor Accessibility presented to the Committee the Annual Status update.

Committee members inquired about diversity and hiring processes within the City and accommodations that would be available for employees.

DIRECTION TO STAFF:  To have staff inquire with Human Resources to present on diversity and hiring practices to the Committee.

Accessibility Staff will provide a brief verbal update with respect to the Accessibility For Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

Dan Sadler, Supervisor, Accessibility advised the Committee that he had no updates at this time.

Councillor Mahoney, Mary Daniel and Carol-Ann Chafe, Citizen Members and Members of the Region of Peel Accessibility Advisory Committee will provide a brief verbal update.

Carol-Ann Chafe, Vice Chair advised the Committee of the following items:

  • that the Region would be using Webex going forward due to the increased accessibility features meeting the needs of many types of disabilities;
  • the Peel Affordable Housing Project, Rapid Housing initiative presented for review and feedback a new project that would convert an old hotel into accessible and affordable apartments;
  • TransHelp provided an update as follows:
    • that 2022 is TransHelps 40th anniversary;
    • that during the pandemic TransHelp provided free transit for vaccines for people with disabilities and older adults;
    • TransHelp now goes to Kipling Subway Station which has increased its accessibility as a result of the renovations

Committee Members requested clarity with regard the IT concern and proposal of a new subcommittee to address technology.
