Pursuant to Section 42 of the Council Procedure By-law 0139-2013, as amended:


General Committee may grant permission to a member of the public to ask a question of General Committee, with the following provisions:

  1. Questions shall be submitted to the Clerk at least 24 hours prior to the meeting;
  2. A person is limited to two (2) questions and must pertain specific item on the current agenda and the speaker will state which item the question is related to;

Andra Maxwell, City Solicitor noted the amendment to capacity limits. Councillor Carlson noted that the Santa Clause Parade would not take place this year. Mayor Crombie inquired about an update pertaining to New Year’s Eve celebrations. Jodi Robillos, Acting Commissioner of Community Services responded that various activities at Celebration Square including fireworks will take place and that staff will providing an update in the upcoming weeks.

Councillor Parrish spoke to the Public Meeting and regional corporate report on the Peel 2051 Regional Official Plan Review and Municipal Comprehensive Review.

Councillor Dasko inquired about the poppy boxes and flags at full or half mast for Remembrance Day. Jodi Robillos, Acting Commissioner of Community Services responded noting that boxes of poppies will be located at the public City facilities. Shari Lichterman, Commissioner of Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer responded that the City of Mississauga is following the lead of the Federal government on whether the flags should be raised. Mayor Crombie, Councillor Dasko and Councillor Carlson spoke to the Remembrance Day events at Celebration Square, in Port Credit and Streetsville.

Mayor Crombie announced various recognition weeks and months as well as the Cities Changing Diabetes (CCD) Urban Diabetes Declaration.

Councillor Fonseca congratulated Barvinok Ukrainian Dance School virtual festival event and thanked Planning and Building staff for the Ward 3 Planning 101 Session.

Councillor Parrish inquired when public planning meetings can resume in the Council Chambers. Andrew Whittemore, Commissioner of Planning and Building responded that a report will be brought forward to an upcoming meeting and further noted that Planning and Development Committee (PDC) meetings currently take place in the chambers in a hybrid format, however community public planning meetings may be challenging due to the technology and vaccination status. Councillor Mahoney noted that he plans to bring forth a motion that everyone entering the Council Chambers must be vaccinated.

Councillor Saito congratulated Safe City Mississauga on their successful virtual Crime Prevention Conference. 

Councillor Parrish thanked staff for their help and support during the lockdown and noted the Bombardier Plant kick off.
