As a municipality, the City of Mississauga is actively working towards reconciliation by confronting our past and our present, providing space for Indigenous peoples within their territory, to recognize and uphold their Treaty Rights and to support Indigenous Peoples. We formally recognize the Anishinaabe origins of our name and continue to make Mississauga a safe space for all Indigenous peoples."

Sign Variance Application to permit one (1) fascia sign attached to an exterior wall.

Serena Crawford, Priority Permits provided an overview of the sign variance application. Councillor M. Reid requested staff to clarify their reason for refusal. Sharon Mittmann, Manager, Urban Design responded. Councillor C. Parrish advised that she had approved these types of sign variance applications in the past. Councillor B. Butt noted that he was not supportive of the proposed staff recommendation. Committee Members further engaged in discussion and discussed the option of deferring the application.

Robert Ruggiero, Development Planner provided an overview of the application. Councillor A. Tedjo enquired about the reason for temporary approval and Chris Rouse, Director, Development and Design responded.

Jim Levac, GSAI, and Raza Mehdi, Turner Fleischer Architects, an overview of the Official Plan Amendment and Rezoning applications. 

The following persons spoke:

  1. Al Zawadzki, Resident advised that he would reserve his comments until a recommendation report was considered.
  2. Mark Bungay, Resident expressed concerns regarding parking, and snowplowing, and enquired about the timeline of the development.
  3. Joan Marshall, Resident expressed concerns regarding the height and shadow impact, and enquired about affordable housing. 
  4. Norm Mcclasson, Resident expressed concerns regarding the height, and parking and enquired if this would have an impact to the water main. 

Committee members engaged in discussion and enquired about the retail/commercial allocation. Councillor C. Fonseca spoke to resident feedback received and the community engagement. Councillor C. Fonseca further enquired about parking, landscaping requirements, and the construction plan. J. Levac, Mary Flynn Gugliette, McMillans LLP, Adam Lucas, Development Planner, and Andrew Whittemore, Commissioner, Planning and Building Department responded to questions.
