Rory O’Sullivan, Capital Project Manager, Rapid Transit spoke to the Hazel McCallion Line cycling infrastructure and facilities.
Committee Members engaged in discussion and inquired about the following topics:
- Bicycle track width
- Project construction timeline
- Cycling connection to the 407 bus terminal
- Derry Road and Hurontario Street intersection
- Derry Road: Red light traffic signal for vehicles; and cycle track and sidewalk navigation for those with visual impairments
- Port Credit GO Station bicycle storage area
Lin Rogers, Manager, Rapid Transit noted that as a partner in the Hazel McCallion Line Project, the City of Mississauga currently has no timelines for cycling infrastructure completion. Ms. Rogers noted that once details become available by the contract owner, Metrolinx, around timelines of the cycling infrastructure completion, an update can be provided to the Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee.
Moaz Ahmad, Citizen Member spoke to the intersection at Derry Road and Hurontario Street expressing concern over cyclist and pedestrian safety noting that large trucks travel through Edwards Boulevard and Topflight Drive. Direction was given to Active Transportation staff to review cycling connectivity options for the City of Mississauga and report back to the Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee.
