Dan Sadler, Supervisor Accessibility provided an overview and discussed highlights and areas for improvement opportunities in the Facility Accessibility Design Standards.
Committee Members provided their feedback and recommendations to staff and acknowledged that the City of Mississauga Facility Accessibility Design Standards are often utilized in the community and should be accessible to the public in order to create awareness.
Dan Sadler advised the Committee that the Facility Accessibility Design Standards would be promoted by sharing it with businesses, Boards of Trade and the BIAs, as well as with individuals submitting building applications. Mr. Sadler further advised that the City is unable to enforce these standards on organizations and advised the Committee Members that the Building Code Act and AODA are the minimum legislated requirements.
Staff and Committee Members discussed addressing the Facility Accessibility Design Standards in chunks going forward at future FADs meetings to facilitate continued discussion and feedback as well as formatting the document for ease of use.
DIRECTION TO STAFF: To address technology at each FADS meeting and to provide members any documentation referring to technology which would be presented.
