Chair, requested everyone present at the meeting introduce themselves.

“We acknowledge the lands which constitute the present-day City of Mississauga as being part of the Treaty and Traditional Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, The Haudenosaunee Confederacy the Huron-Wendat and Wyandotte Nations. We recognize these peoples and their ancestors as peoples who inhabited these lands since time immemorial. The City of Mississauga is home to many global Indigenous Peoples.


As a municipality, the City of Mississauga is actively working towards reconciliation by confronting our past and our present, providing space for Indigenous peoples within their territory, to recognize and uphold their Treaty Rights and to support Indigenous Peoples. We formally recognize the Anishinaabe origins of our name and continue to make Mississauga a safe space for all Indigenous peoples.”

Carol-Ann Chafe, Founder and Chair of Access 2 Accessibility presented on Adaptive and Inclusive Micro-Mobility and discussed the various mobile devices and their adaptable features.

Committee members discussed prevention of various mobility devices use on sidewalks and regulations.

    That the deputation and associated presentation by Carol-Ann Chafe, Founder and Chair and Mary Daniel, Business Development and Community Engagement of Access 2 Accessibility, regarding Adaptive and Inclusive Micro-Mobility (AIM), be received for information .

Mattea Turco, Transportation Planner with the City of Mississauga provided the Committee with an update on the Phase 2 Micro-mobility Program Development and discussed By-laws, reporting of speed violations and enforcement, continuing education for riders, and the service areas within the City for e-scooters usage with supported infrastructure. 

Staff advised the Committee that they would go to Council early September and have a launch of e-bikes in April 2024.  Staff further advised the Committee that they would review submissions and have demonstrations for which the Committee would be invited to participate.

Committee members requested that the monitoring and evaluation survey be brought to the Committee near the end of August and inquired about safety features such as geofencing, audible tone to alert pedestrians and speed enforcement.

Laura Zeglen, Vision Zero Program Lead with the City of Mississauga informed the Committee on the background of the Vision Zero project and addressed the benefit of the pedestrian head start signal which would include a five second start prior to the green light as part of the 99 actions in the Vision Zero action plan.

Committee members discussed reinforcing right-of-ways, priority locations for the installation of the head start signals, implementation of accessible pedestrian signals at new or rebuilt traffic signals, timing of the signals, audible signals and education sessions.

Committee members were advised by staff that different municipalities were surveyed to assess how they would calculate timing to cross under various conditions and locations and that education sessions would be available through a CNIB learning program such as Orientation Mobility.L

    That the deputation and associated presentation by Laura Zeglen, Vision Zero Program Lead regarding Vision Zero Update: Pedestrian Head Start Signals, be received for information.

Shoaib Ahmed, CEO of Ride Scooty addressed the item 6.2 deputation by Mattea Turco and provided an update on the launch in Brampton as well as addressing audible tone on electric scooters, speed limits and locations of use, geofencing, enforcement and education for riders. Mr. Ahmed advised that the response from the public has been positive with few 311 calls at its roll out.

Mary Daniel, Citizen Member of AAC provided an update regarding the delegation with public transit transportation and expressed concern about transportation between public and TransHelp regarding invisible disabilities which would be reviewed again and that the Committee received a presentation from Affordable Housing from Chelsea Garden.

Committee Members inquired about the future use of TransHelp.

Martha Cameron, Legislative Coordinator provided an update on the Committee's ability to engage in hybrid meetings at this time and outlined some of the current issues that would be addressed.

Janette Campbell, Accessibility Specialist provided the Committee with an update on the South Common Community Centre Redevelopment Project and advised Committee Members that the project team intends to return to the Facility Accessibility Design Subcommittee on September 25, 2023 to present a project update that would include dimensional drawings of the project for review and advised the team would work with the Accessibility staff to ensure compliance with FADS principles.

Committee Members were advised that benches would be located outside and recommended accessible furniture be available inside the lobby for residents waiting for wheel trans pick up.
