Paolo Di Salvo, Supervisor, Parking Enforcement and Members of Mississauga School Traffic Safety Action Committee engaged in a discussion regarding ongoing challenges related to parking compliance in school zones particularly during peak drop-off and pick-up times. The following points were raised:
- Spoke to current operational limitations, including staffing shortages, the reactive nature of enforcement due to competing priorities, and the difficulty in maintaining a consistent presence across school zones.
- Noted that the recent hiring of 10 additional enforcement officers is expected to improve coverage once fully on-boarded, and that increased fines may serve as a deterrent to non-compliance.
- Implementing monthly rotational enforcement schedules focused on schools with persistent compliance issues by coordinating with school staff and members of the Site Inspection Subcommittee to capture and report recurring violations.
- To create a list with the top 10 schools with recurring parking challenges monthly.
- The need to prioritize enforcement during drop-off and dismissal timeframe.
Miles Roque, Chair, reiterated the proposal to establish a working group at a future meeting to determine the criteria for identifying high-risk schools, maintain a monthly Top 10 list, report findings to the Committee, and ensure the list is shared with Parking Enforcement.
