"We acknowledge the lands which constitute the present-day City of Mississauga as being part of the Treaty and Traditional Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, The Haudenosaunee Confederacy the Huron-Wendat and Wyandotte Nations. We recognize these peoples and their ancestors as peoples who inhabited these lands since time immemorial. The City of Mississauga is home to many global Indigenous Peoples.

As a municipality, the City of Mississauga is actively working towards reconciliation by confronting our past and our present, providing space for Indigenous peoples within their territory, to recognize and uphold their Treaty Rights and to support Indigenous Peoples. We formally recognize the Anishinaabe origins of our name and continue to make Mississauga a safe space for all Indigenous peoples."

Kelsey Prentice, Development Planner provided an overview of the proposed amendments to the Mississauga Official Plan and Zoning By-law. Councillor S. McFadden spoke to the proposed amendments.

Waiving Building Permit Fees for Temporary Tents.

    That the City’s Building By-law 203-2019 be amended respecting construction, demolition and change of use permit, inspections and related matters (The Building By-law) to waive building permit application fees for temporary tents associated with temporary outdoor retail sales and display, temporary outdoor recreational, temporary entertainment establishments and temporary outdoor patios accessory to a restaurant, convenience restaurant or take-out restaurant as defined in Zoning By-law 0225-2007, as amended, from January 1, 2022 until December 31, 2023.

Off-street Parking Regulations Update and Report on Engagement.

Katherine Morton, Manager, Planning Strategies and Eniber Cabrera, Development Planner provided an overview of the Off-street Parking Regulations Update and Report on Engagement.

Committee Members engaged in discussion and enquired about precinct justifications, parking evaluations, and noted concerns with the reduction of parking and relying on on-street parking. Ms. Morton and Ms. Cabrera responded to questions and Andrew Whittemore, Commissioner, Planning and Building advised that planning staff would follow-up with the committee members concerns and report back in the first quarter of 2022.

Councillor D. Damerla arrived at 2:12 PM.

The following persons spoke:

  1. Patrick Lazzara, Resident noted concerns with the reduction of parking and requested that staff review updated parking regulations based on the Covid 19 pandemic.
  2. Brennan Bempong, Resident noted concerns with the reduction of parking and requested that staff review alternatives for public parking such as partnerships with the school boards and parking at community centres.
  3. Jonathan Giggs, Resident noted concerns with parking minimums and enquired about how many parking spaces exist in Mississauga.

Ms. Morton and Mr. Whittemore responded to questions.

    2. That the submissions made at the Public Meeting held on December 6, 2021, to consider the report titled “Public Meeting Information Report (Wards 1 to 11) – Off-street Parking Regulations Update and Report on Engagement”, be received.
    3. That three oral submissions be received.
