Suzanne Doyle, Vice-Char assumed the role of Chair and called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.

Ms. Lapp and Ms. Chan provided an overview of the climate change action plan progress report and spoke to the IPCC Report, community and corporate GHG inventory, action highlights, active transportation progress, and next steps.

Pursuant to Section 42 of the Council Procedure By-law 0139-2013, as amended:


Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee may grant permission to a member of the public to ask a question of Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee, with the following provisions:

  1. Questions shall be submitted to the Clerk at least 24 hours prior to the meeting;
  2. A person is limited to two (2) questions and must pertain specific item on the current agenda and the speaker will state which item the question is related to;
  3. The total public question period time is 15 minutes maximum and shall not be extended by the Chair; and
  4. Any response not provided at the meeting will be provided in the format of a written response.

Mr. Hammel provided an update on the Network and Technical Subcommittee and spoke to National Active Transportation Fund, way-finding, bike lane parking and integrative road projects.

Mr. Hammel noted that he would volunteer for the Bike the Creek event. Sunil Sharma, Citizen Member requested that all members of the Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee be encouraged to volunteer for the event.

Sunil Sharma, Citizen Member spoke to the timeline for the Sheridan Homelands Ratepayers' Association (SHORA) cycling article and advised that he would send a draft to the Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee for input via email and then send the final copy of the article as well.

Mr. Lau advised that the Community Services Department manages the off road trails and noted that the City goes through a 3 year cycle of assessment for resurfacing. Mr. Lau further advised that the 2022 budget approval was forthcoming and prioritised for rehabilitation. 

Committee Members engaged in discussion and enquired about timelines and the Culham Trail. Mr. Lau advised that his update was referring to paved trails as opposed to granular trails. Mr. Lau further advised that a presentation providing an update on the Culham Trail would be coming to the next Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee meeting on December 7, 2021.

Sunil Sharma, Citizen Member spoke to the McLaughlin Road Corridor Project Public Consultation meeting and noted that the themes of safe cycling and reducing traffic speeds were discussed. Mr. Sharma advised that there would be another Public Consultation in February which he would attend and report back to the Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee. Matthew Sweet, Manager, Active Transportation advised that Megan Piercey, Legislative Coordinator would receive an email regarding the next Public Consultation meeting that she would then distribute to the Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee for information.
