Ms. Schabla provided a presentation on the Speeding Consequences & Day of Remembrance of Road Traffic Victims Campaign and spoke to an overview of the campaign, project goals, communications goals, key messages, tactics, metrics and the creative. Committee Members engaged in discussion and enquired about the creative images and the City Hall tower lighting. Ms. Schabla responded to questions.

Pursuant to Section 42 of the Council Procedure By-law 0139-2013, as amended:

Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee may grant permission to a member of the public to ask a question of Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee, with the following provisions:

  1. Questions shall be submitted to the Clerk at least 24 hours prior to the meeting;
  2. A person is limited to two (2) questions and must pertain specific item on the current agenda and the speaker will state which item the question is related to;
  3. The total public question period time is 15 minutes maximum and shall not be extended by the Chair; and
  4. Any response not provided at the meeting will be provided in the format of a written response.

Natalie Half, Resident spoke to item 9.2 and 9.6 and enquired about the committees plan to issue a Phil Green Award in 2021. Paulina Pedziqiatr, Citizen Member provided an update on the 2021 Phil Green Award and advised that the Award would follow the same timeline as in 2020 and would be advertised in the month of November and the award would be presented in early 2022. Megan Schabla, Communications Coordinator advised that the Phil Green Award application would be available on mississaugabikes.ca.


Glen Voakes, Resident spoke to item 9.4 and enquired about the work scheduled for rehabilitation of ORT’s and how much budget was allocated in fiscal 2021 or any previous years. Megan Piercey, Legislative Coordinator advised that due to the change in committee meeting date this month, Community Services staff  were not available to attend the meeting and further advised that a response would be provided to Mr. Voakes by Community Services staff in the format of a written response. Mr. Voakes requested that the written response to his question also be forwarded to Committee Members for their information.

Mr. Hammel provided an update on the Network and Technical Subcommittee and spoke to the National Active Transportation Fund, an open data update, bike the creek and upcoming projects.

Councillor Fonseca provided direction to Megan Piercey, Legislative Coordinator to provide the Committee Members with an email containing the link to the open data web page.

Ms. Pedziqiatr provided an update on the Communications and Promotions Subcommittee and spoke to the Phil Green Award, Speeding Consequences and Day of Remembrance of Road Traffic Victims Campaign, bike tourism in Mississauga  and the work plan. Committee Members engaged in discussion and enquired about a recommendation made at the end of 2021 regarding an updated advertising timeline for the Annual Phil Green Award. Direction was provided to Megan Piercey, Legislative Coordinator to provide a copy of the minutes addressing the recommendation to Ms. Pedziqiatr in order for the committee to further review the timeline for advertising the Phil Green Award at a future meeting.

Councillor Fonseca provided an update on bike tourism events in Mississauga such as Ontario ParaSport Games and Ontario Summer Games and requested that the Communications and Promotions Subcommittee review the feasibility of promoting a ride.

Mr. Tatla provided an update on closing the gap on Derry Road and spoke to cycling infrastructure, the topical study, the implementation stage, detail design stage and timeline for the design proposals. Councillor Fonseca provided direction for Region of Peel staff to report back to the committee with a further update early next year.

Fred Sandoval, Active Transportation Coordinator provided an update on the memorandum and provided a demonstration on the open data web page. Committee Members engaged in discussion and enquired about winter maintenance, Glen Erin Trail, ORT 11, Nine Creeks Trail and sorting of open data. Mr. Sandoval responded to questions.

Committee Members provided direction for Raymond Lau, Project Leader Engineering to provide an update on the ORTs at the next committee meeting.

Suzanne Doyle, Vice Chair requested that the work plan be added to every committee meeting as a standing item and reminded members to review the work plan.

Councillor Fonseca requested that an update on Tour de Mississauga be added to the next meeting. Councillor Fonseca also requested that Active Transportation Staff provide a report on a Cycling Without Age Pilot at a future committee meeting.
