9.1

Proposed Heritage Designation of 6056 Ninth Line (Ward 10)

Committee Members spoke in support of the designation and noted the history of the property.

  That the property at 6056 Ninth Line (Ward 10) be designated under the Ontario Heritage Act for its physical, design, historical, associative and contextual value, as outlined in the Corporate Report from the Commissioner of Community Services, dated September 23, 2024, and that the appropriate City officials be authorized and directed to take the necessary action to give effect thereto.

Objection to Heritage Designation, 719 Dundas Street East (Ward 3)

John Dunlop, Manager, Indigenous Relations, Heritage and Museums spoke to ongoing discussions with the Anglican Diocese on the heritage status of all properties and noted the recent amendment to the Heritage Act regarding places of worship.  In response, Citizen Members spoke to the history of the area.

  That the property at 719 Dundas Street East (Ward 3) be designated for its physical, historical and associative but that the Designation Bylaw be held until such time as the City and the Anglican Diocese of Toronto have completed discussions on all churches subject to designation as outlined in the Corporate Report dated October 25, 2024 from the Commissioner of Community Services.

That the request to amend the heritage designation by-law to exclude the area of the superintendent’s cottage at 1190 Dixie Road (Ward 1), as per the Corporate Report from the Commissioner of Community Services, dated October 11, 2024, be approved conditionally upon the severance of the property.

Proposed Updates to the Designated Heritage Property Grant Program

John Dunlop, Manager, Indigenous Relations, Heritage and Museums spoke to the grant program and noted budget requests as warranted and noted the portal would be open from February to October, 2025.

OTHER BUSINESS

John Dunlop, Manager, Indigenous Relations, Heritage and Museums spoke to the Architecture Conservancy of Ontario newsletter requesting participation to advocate to the Provincial Government for the creation of a heritage building grant fund to support alteration and adaptive use of heritage buildings to increase housing supply.  Further, J. Dunlop spoke to advocacy and nomination of Councillor D. Damerla on behalf of the Heritage Advisory Committee.
