Sneha Mandhan, PhD Candidate, University of Toronto, Planning presented on the cultural and heritage significance and preservation of banquet halls, the impact of legislation, population growth, and the discrepancy of designated heritage sites and the potential to preserve banquet halls by incorporating them into places of worship.
John Dunlop, Manager Heritage Planning and Indigenous Relations advised the Subcommittee of the similarity to Metal Works in regard to the relevance of the property to heritage, and discussed the challenges of the new legislation coming into force with concerns that banquet halls would be forced out of the City and how to protect the critical ones.
