Questions for Public Question Period – To pre-register for Public Question Period, questions may be provided to the Legislative Coordinator at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting. Following the pre-registered questions, if time permits, the public may be given the opportunity to ask a question on an agenda item.  Virtual participants must pre-register.

Comments submitted will be considered as public information and entered into the public record.

Each Deputation to Mississauga School Traffic Safety Action Committee is limited to speaking not more than 10 minutes.


Pursuant to Section 57.1 of the Council Procedure By-law 0044-2022, as amended:


Deputations shall be received and the matter shall be referred to staff for a report, unless there is a resolution or recommendation passed to “receive” the Deputation. After a Deputation is completed, Members shall each have one opportunity to make a preamble statement and ask questions to the Deputant(s) or staff for clarification purposes only, and without debate.

Pursuant to Section 58 of the Council Procedure By-law 0044-2022, as amended:


Mississauga School Traffic Safety Action Committee may grant permission to a member of the public to ask a question of Mississauga School Traffic Safety Action Committee, with the following provisions:

  1. Questions may be submitted to the Clerk at least 24 hours prior to the meeting;
  2. A person is limited to two (2) questions and must pertain specific item on the current agenda and the speaker will state which item the question is related to;
  3. The total public question period time is 15 minutes maximum and shall not be extended by the Chair; and
  4. Any response not provided at the meeting will be provided in the format of a written response.

Mississauga School Traffic Safety Action Committee to discuss and agree on a location and date for the annual appreciation dinner.

DIRECTION REQUIRED

Site inspection report for the site inspection conducted on October 15, 2024 at Mavis Road and Sombrero Way for the students attending St. Marcellinus Catholic Secondary School and Mississauga Secondary School.


RECOMMENDATION


That the Site Inspection report for the site inspection conducted on October 15, 2024 at Mavis Road and Sombrero Way for the students attending St. Marcellinus Catholic Secondary School and Mississauga Secondary School be received for information.

RECOMMEND RECEIPT

Site inspection report for the site inspection conducted on October 8, 2024 in front of Queenston Drive Public School at 3250 Queenston Drive and Vicinity for the students attending Queenston Drive Public School.


RECOMMENDATION

1. That the warrants have not been met for the placement of a school crossing guard.
2. That Transportation and Works be requested to review the signage on Queenston Drive in front of the school and replace any faded signage.
3. That the Peel District School Board be requested to repaint the arrows on the Kiss & Ride exit lanes.


RECOMMEND APPROVAL

Site inspection report conducted on October 15, 2024 at the intersection of Lakeshore Road West and Mississauga Road for the students attending Riverside Public School.


RECOMMENDATION

  1. That Mississauga School Traffic Safety Action Committee be requested to re-inspect the intersection of Mississauga Road and Lakeshore Road West for the students attending Riverside Public School, in the Spring of 2025 after more students have moved into the Brightwater Community unless transportation for students during construction is provided.

RECOMMEND APPROVAL

Site inspection report for the site inspection conducted on October 18, 2024 at Silver Creek Boulevard and Gwendale Crescent for the students attending Silver Creek Public School.


RECOMMENDATION


That the Site Inspection report for the site inspection conducted on October 18, 2024 at Silver Creek Boulevard and Gwendale Crescent for the students attending Silver Creek Public School be received for information.


RECOMMEND RECEIPT

Site inspection report for the site inspection conducted on October 22, 2024 at Silver Creek Boulevard and Gwendale Crescent for the students attending Silver Creek Public School.


RECOMMENDATION

  1. That the warrants are no longer met for the retention of the school crossing guard at Silver Creek Boulevard and Gwendale Crescent and that the school crossing be removed at the Christmas Break 2024.
  2. That the principal of Silver Creek Public School be requested to advise parents and students that the school crossing at Silver Creek Boulevard and Gwendale Crescent will be removed at the Christmas Break 2024.
  3. That Transportation and Works be requested to remove the school crossing signs and lines on Silver Creek Boulevard and Gwendale Crescent.

RECOMMEND RECEIPT

Site Inspection report for the site inspection conducted on October 17, 2024 at Bristol Road West between Swiftcurrent Trail and Hurontario Street for the students attending St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School. 


RECOMMENDATION

  1. That the principal of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School be requested to remind parents and students:
    1. No u-turn" signage in place in front of the school.
    2. Anyone under the age of 18 riding a scooter must wear a helmet.
    3. Encourage students to walk to school whenever possible.

Site inspection reports for the site inspections conducted on June 20, 2024 and October 28, 2024  at Dundas Street West and The Credit Woodlands for the students attending Springfield Public School.


RECOMMENDATION

  1. That the warrants are no longer met for the retention of the school crossing guard at Dundas Street West and The Credit Woodlands and that the school crossing be removed at the Christmas Break 2024.
  2. That the principal of Springfield Public School be requested to advise parents and students that the school crossing at Dundas Street West and The Credit Woodlands will be removed at the Christmas Break 2024.
  3. That Transportation and Works be requested to review the timing of the signal on the east and west legs of the intersection to ensure that it is set at slow walking speed.

Site Inspection report for the site inspection conducted on October 3, 2024 at Runningbrook Drive and Tomken Road for the students attending St.Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Elementary School and Silverthorn Public School.


RECOMMENDATION

  1. That the warrants have not been met for the placement of a school crossing guard.
  2. That Transportation and Works be requested to review the feasibility of adjusting the signals at Tomken Road and Runningbrook Drive to accommodate "ped recall" between 8:00 - 9:15 am and 3:00 - 4:00 pm.
  3. That the principals of St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Elementary School and Silverthorn Public School be requested to remind parents and students to press the pedestrian button to call up the walk signal to cross Tomken Road and add the attached infographic to the next school newsletter.
