INDIGENOUS LAND STATEMENT

“We acknowledge the lands which constitute the present-day City of Mississauga as being part of the Treaty and Traditional Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, The Haudenosaunee Confederacy the Huron-Wendat and Wyandotte Nations. We recognize these peoples and their ancestors as peoples who inhabited these lands since time immemorial. The City of Mississauga is home to many global Indigenous Peoples.

As a municipality, the City of Mississauga is actively working towards reconciliation by confronting our past and our present, providing space for Indigenous peoples within their territory, to recognize and uphold their Treaty Rights and to support Indigenous Peoples. 9.1

Request to Demolish a Heritage Listed Property: 1171 Stavebank Road (Ward 1)

Committee members discussed the design and inquired about the replacement of trees in accordance with the new tree by-law.

Committee members were informed by staff that the design being considered is located in Appendix 2 pages 6 and 7 and that the tree replacement would be a requirement through site plan application.

  That the property at 1171 Stavebank Road, which is listed on the City’s Heritage Register, is not worthy of heritage designation, and consequently, that the owner’s request to demolish proceed through the applicable process, as per the Corporate Report from the Commissioner of Community Services dated July 26, 2022.

Request to Alter a Designated Heritage Property, 1695 The Collegeway (Ward 8) (CONSENT)

  That the request to alter the property at 1695 The Collegeway, as per the report from the Commissioner of Community Services, dated August 10, 2022, be approved.

Request to Alter a Designated Heritage Property: 7004 Second Line West (Ward 11)

Committee Members discussed the replacement of sod and trees to break up the massing on the property and were advised by staff that once the final plans for the Second Line West Project are completed the issue of planting trees to reduce massing would be addressed.

  That the request to alter a heritage property: 7004 Second Line West, as per the Corporate Report from the Commissioner of Community Services dated August 10, 2022, be approved with the condition that the sod and trees would be replaced to break up the massing.

Proposed Heritage Designation of 1239 Lakeshore Road East (Ward 1)

Committee Members discussed the proposed Heritage Designation and were informed by staff that the designation would be to the original 1923 building. Committee members discussed future plans for the building and how it would retain its landmark status.

  That the property at 1239 Lakeshore Road East be designated under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act for its design, physical and contextual value and that the appropriate City officials be authorized and directed to take the necessary action to give effect thereto as per the Corporate Report dated August 13, 2022 from the Commissioner of Community Services.
