Any member of the public interested in making a deputation to an item listed on the agenda must register by calling 905-615-3200 ext. 4915 or by emailing megan.piercey@mississauga.ca by Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 12:00PM.



Each Deputation to Mississauga School Traffic Safety Action Committee is limited to speaking not more than 10 minutes.
 
Pursuant to Section 57.1 of the Council Procedure By-law 0044-2022, as amended:
Deputations shall be received and the matter shall be referred to staff for a report, unless there is a resolution or recommendation passed to “receive” the Deputation. After a Deputation is completed, Members shall each have one opportunity to make a preamble statement and ask questions to the Deputant(s) or staff for clarification purposes only, and without debate.

Public Comments: Members of the Public that have a question about an item listed on the agenda may pre-register by contacting the Legislative Coordinator at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting. Following the registered speakers, if time permits, the Chair will acknowledge members of the public who wish to ask a question about an item listed on the agenda. Virtual participants must pre-register.


Pursuant to Section 58 of the Council Procedure By-law 0044-2022, as amended:


Mississauga School Traffic Safety Action Committee may grant permission to a member of the public to ask a question of Mississauga School Traffic Safety Action Committee, with the following provisions:

  1. Questions may be submitted to the Clerk at least 24 hours prior to the meeting;
  2. A person is limited to two (2) questions and must pertain specific item on the current agenda and the speaker will state which item the question is related to;
  3. The total public question period time is 15 minutes maximum and shall not be extended by the Chair; and
  4. Any response not provided at the meeting will be provided in the format of a written response.

Site inspection report for the site inspection conducted on April 23, 2024 at the intersection of Tomken Road and Flagship Drive for the students attending St. Thomas More Catholic Elementary School.

RECOMMENDATION

  1. That the warrants have not been met for the placement of a school crossing guard at Tomken Road and Flagship Drive for the students attending St. Thomas More Catholic Elementary School.
  2. That Transportation and Works be requested to install "No Stopping" corner prohibitions on the east leg of Tomken Road on Flagship Drive and the west side of Tomken road.

RECOMMEND APPROVAL

Site inspection report for the site inspection conducted on April 23, 2024 at the intersection of Tomken Road and Flagship Drive for the students attending Dixie Public School.


RECOMMENDATION

  1. That the warrants have not been met for the placement of a school crossing guard for the students attending Dixie Public School at the intersection Tomken Road and Flagship Drive.
  2. That Transportation and Works be requested to review the signage on Flagship Drive.
  3. That Transportation and Works be requested to install "no stopping" corner prohibitions on the east leg of Tomken Road on Flagship Drive and the west side of Tomken Road.
  4. That once the signage is in place, the principal of Tomken Road Middle School be requested to advise the parents and students of the new "No Stopping" corner restriction on Flagship Drive east and west of Tomken Road.

RECOMMEND APPROVAL

Site inspection report for the site inspection conducted on May 14, 2024 at the intersection of the Credit Woodlands and McBride Avenue, southwest side for the students attending St. Gerard Catholic Elementary School and Springfield Public School.

RECOMMENDATION

  1. That the warrants have not been met for the placement of a school crossing guard at the intersection of the Credit Woodlands and McBride Avenue, southwest side for the students attending St. Gerard Catholic Elementary School and Springfield Public School.
  2. That Transportation and Works be requested to:
    1. Review the signage on McBride Avenue in front of St. Gerard Catholic Elementary School and replace faded and broken signage.
    2. Install "please cross at marked crosswalks" signage at plaza driveway on McBride Avenue and on boulevard on south side of McBride Avenue opposite plaza.
  3. That Transportation Projects be requested to share their revised vision of the former traffic circle on the Credit Woodlands and McBride Avenue with Mississauga School Traffic Safety Action Committee.
  4. That the principal of St. Gerard Catholic Elementary School be requested to remind students and parents to cross McBride Avenue at marked crosswalk.

RECOMMEND APPROVAL

This matter was considered and adopted by Council on May 8, 2024 and was referred to Mississauga School Traffic Safety Action Committee for information only.


RECOMMEND RECEIPT

Site inspection report for the site inspection conducted on May 9, 2024 in front of the school and at the intersection of Fairwind Drive and Wendron Crescent for the students attending Fairwind Senior Public School.

RECOMMENDATION

  1. That Transportation and Works be requested to:
    1. Install additional "no stopping" prohibitions on Fairwind Drive at Fairwind Senior Public School entrance and exit driveways.
    2. Install "no stopping" corner prohibitions on Fairwind Senior Public School.
    3. Install additional "No U-Turn" signs in the school area at Fairwind Senior Public School.
    4. Relocate the 30km/hr school zone sign to the post with the WC1 school zone sign.
  2. That Peel Regional Police be requested to attend Fairwind Senior Public School to enforce the "No U-Turns" once Transportation and Works has completed recommendation 1c) above, between the hours of 8:05 - 8:25 AM and 2:10 - 2:35 PM.

RECOMMEND APPROVAL

Site inspection report for the site inspection conducted on May 16, 2024 at the intersection of Barrisdale Drive and Montevideo Road for the students attending St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Elementary School.


RECOMMENDATION

  1. That the warrants have not been met for the placement of a school crossing guard at the intersection of Barrisdale Drive and Montevideo Road for the students attending St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Elementary School.
  2. That Transportation and Works be requested to review the signage on Bontevideo Road in front of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Elementary School and near Barrisdale Drive.
  3. That the principal of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Elementary School be requested to:
    1.  Advise the parents to use the kiss and ride to drop off students.
    2. Remind students and parents to cross Montevideo Road at the crossover in front of the school or with the crossing guard at Montevideo Road and Aquitaine Avenue instead of midblock at Barrisdale Drive.

RECOMMEND APPROVAL

Site inspection report for the site inspection conducted on May 23, 2024 in front of 1390 Ogden Avenue and on school property for the students attending Allan A. Martin Senior Public School.

RECOMMENDATION

  1. That Transportation and Works be requested to:
    1. Review the signage on Ogden Avenue in the school zone.
    2. Install "no stopping" corner prohibitions on Ogden Avenue at the school entrance and exit driveways.
    3. Do minor trimming of trees in the school zone that are blocking signage.
  2. That the Peel District School Board be requested to either re-paint the pedestrian walkway on the north side of the south parking lot or install a physical barrier preventing vehicles from parking in the walkway.
