Laura Zeglen, Active Transportation Coordinator provided an overview of the Safety audit walks highlighting updates for this year on Mississauga school walking routes program, such as launch events, promotion of active school program and next steps.

In response to Councillor Fonseca, L. Zeglen clarified that raised crossings are not part of the current audit criteria but could be considered if needed and noted that up to 8 schools are prioritized based on proximity, with others considered for future campaigns based on demographics.

      a. Update the PXO pedestrian information sign at the pedestrian crossover in front of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Elementary School.
      b. Review the painted crosswalk ladder markings at the pedestrian crossover in front of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Elementary School to determine if they require re-painting.
    3. That the principal of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Elementary School be requested to share the PXO pedestrian information sign with students and parents in a school newsletter once installed, as a reminder to always push the pedestrian button and wait for vehicles to stop.

    2. That Transportation and Works be requested to to review the feasibility of: 
          a. extending the "no stopping" zone on Burnhamthorpe Road West at Ridgeway Drive and review the placement of the "no stopping" signs on the northeast side of Burnhamthorpe Road West and Ridgeway Drive.
          b. implementing an advanced walk phase.
          c. implementing school zone signage on Burnhamthorpe Road West.
    3. That the Principal of Loyola Catholic Secondary School be requested to:
          a. notify the parents and students attending Loyola Catholic Secondary School if recommendation 2.a is implemented.
          b. remind parents of students attending Loyola Catholic Secondary School to use the Kiss and Ride in front of the school on Sladeview Crescent to drop off students.
    4. That Parking Enforcement be requested to enforce the "no stopping" zones on Burnhamthorpe Road West between the hours of 7:55 - 8:15 am and 2:10 - 2:30 pm.

In response to Councillor Fonseca's inquiry, Daniel Venafro, Supervisor, Parking Enforcement, clarified that the number of 245 tags for Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School as indicated in the Enforcement Inspections Report for November and December 2024 was an error and staff will send a revised report to Heleana Tsabros, Legislative Coordinator.

Sheelagh Duffin, Supervisor Crossing Guards, noted that the February Site Inspections calendar would be distributed soon, with inspections being weather dependent and spoke to residents' concerns about scheduling during the winter months. S. Duffin spoke to the Committee Members about holding a 30 minutes training session for site inspections before the start of the next meeting.
