Kayla Jonas Galvin, Heritage Operations Manager, Archaeological Research Associates (ARA) Heritage addressed the current use of the building located at 3215 Erindale Station Road and requested members to provide information for consideration of its cultural heritage value and history of the property.  Staff advised that the building is not listed on the heritage register nor designated and committee members discussed potential uses of the property for future development.

Committee Members discussed the repair of the brick work and increased security measures to prevent vandalism to the property.  Staff advised the Committee that the property owner has increased security and would be doing routine checks of the property.  Staff advised that the heat would be turned on in the building during the winter.

Committee Members discussed the rehabilitation of the building and that the electricity would be turned on with the next step to be turning on the water so the building would be used again.

Committee Members raised concerns about grading issue and pooling of water and requested this be addressed as part of the remediation work prior to paving the driveway.

Committee members inquired about the disposal of materials and supervision on site during construction work to ensure proper disposal practices are adhered to.  Members inquired about the status of the installation of the Avro Arrow and an update was provided about the installation of the Lancaster in Ottawa.

    That the request to demolish the Malton Tennis Clubhouse located on a property listed on the City of Mississauga’s Heritage Registry at 3430 Derry Road East (Ward 5), as outlined in the Corporate Report dated December 13, 2023 from the Commissioner of Community Services, be approved.

Committee Members discussed salvaging the materials from the building and how to incorporate these materials in the new build, the plans for the greenhouses and availability to the public and the redesign of the windows and sliding door to reflect the simple design of the Header House.  Staff discussed the various exhibits and means of highlighting the history in the rebuild.

Committee Members discussed the demolition of the storage shed and maintaining the use of the building so people are not displaced and that exterior utilities would be available to support events. Staff advised the Committee of planned work to the parking lot, roof, upgrades to the wastewater system and plans for paving of the south side of the building to facilitate a parking lot.

    That the property at 822 Clarkson Road South (Ward 2) be designated under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act for its historical and contextual value and that the appropriate City officials be authorized and directed to take the necessary action to give effect thereto.

Committee Members discussed plans for the City of Mississauga's 50th anniversary and contributions involving heritage awareness with activities to include a treasure hunt of 50 heritage artifacts, a virtual tour of City Hall and highlight of heritage items within the building, and collaborating with the Mississaugas of the Credit.

Matthew Wilkinson, Citizen Member advised the Committee of further activities that would acknowledge the 50th anniversary to include Carassauga, Heritage Mississauga's annual comic book, podcasts, ongoing articles in Modern Mississauga and a museum history hunt.

Committee Members were informed of the next Streetsville Heritage Conservation District meeting on Wednesday, January 24th at 7 pm at Vic Johnson Arena and that potential boundaries for the heritage conservation district would be addressed.
